LHRLA has been especially active in bringing about much-needed jail reforms in the country. It spearheaded a successful campaign which resulted in the establishment of the first juvenile court in Pakistan and is now agitating for separate prisons for juvenile offenders and other adult prisoners.
LHRLA's Efforts
In 1992 LHRLA filed a constitutional petition, under the public interest litigation, initiated by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, challenging the existence of women prisoners in Karachi Central jail among the male prisoners.

Legal aid for women prisoners is provided by LHRLA to facilitate them.
LHRLA is also collaborating with the government of Pakistan for the formulation of an equitable system of justice; it has petitioned the government to bring about changes in the conditions prevalent in jails for women and children, provided for by the constitution of Pakistan. Many cases have been fought against illegal detentions, torture and other wrongful practices condoned by the legal system.
It also helped to form a legal aid group, which works in Larkana Prison.
